Lit, because the code says so
A flag flown after dark has to be illuminated. That is federal law, not etiquette — and it is the reason these exist.
4 U.S.C. § 6(a)
When a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
